Here are the steps to cut copper pipe:
1. Using a Hacksaw:
- Select the right hacksaw blade. Use a hacksaw with a small gap between its teeth so it cuts cleanly through the copper pipe.
- Clamp the copper pipe, if possible.
- Mark the copper pipe.
- Set the hacksaw blade on the mark.
- Saw firmly into the pipe.
- Clean the cut copper pipe.
2. Using a Pipe Cutter:
- Position your copper pipe in the pipe cutter and tighten the blade just enough so it is snug—any tighter and you may bend the pipe.
- Give your pipe a couple of turns within the tool’s grasp.
- Pull out the pipe to inspect it, and you should see a groove cut around its circumference.
- Slide the pipe through the pipe cutter so that its end is flush with the far side of the tool.
- Tighten the blade slightly and give your pipe another turn or two.
- Repeat until you’ve cut through.
3. Using a Dremel Tool:
- Mark where you want to make the cut with a marker or other writing utensil.
- Position your bit accordingly and press down firmly as you rotate the bit around the circumference of the pipe until it makes contact on all sides.
