Here are the steps to install a vent hood:

1. Mount a bracket on the wall.
2. Position the hood over the hole in the wall.
3. Secure it to the bracket and the exhaust ductwork.
4. Make the electrical connections.

Some vent hoods have two pieces of chimney that slide inside each other and attach to the bracket and the hood.

Here are some more detailed steps:

1. Use a 6-inch-diameter hole saw to cut a hole through the interior wall surface, directly above the range. Collect the dust with wet/dry vacuum while cutting the hole. If the hole saw can’t cut through the interior wall in one pass, stop cutting, remove the plaster from the hole, and continue drilling.
2. Determine where you want to vent your range hood.
3. Install your ductwork in the shortest unobstructed path to the outside of your home.
4. Cut a hole 1-2 inches larger than your ductwork where you’ll run the duct from your hood.
5. Attach the range hood to your ductwork.
6. Attach a wall or roof cap to the exterior wall or roof.
